Smart stock control at Safran

In 2004, Safran adopted our smart stock control solution, a vending machine system, offered by Supply Point Systems, to streamline their tool management process. This case study highlights the benefits and operational efficiency achieved through the implementation of Gandtrack’s system at Safran Nacelles.

background

Safran Nacelles Ltd, based in Burnley, has been a valued client of Gandtrack since the late 90s. The core of our offering to them was the provision of drill bits, countersinks, routers, reamers, hand tools, and catering to special requests.

Safran faced challenges in managing their extensive tool inventory spread across multiple locations. The absence of traceability, manual tracking, and poor visibility of costs allocated to tooling prompted Safran to explore an innovative solution.

The Functionality of the Vending Machine System

Gandtrack’s Vending Machine System revolutionised Safran’s tool management by providing comprehensive visibility and control over their inventory. Safran implemented five vending machines across their site, each equipped with a computer. The system enabled authorized personnel to log in and monitor the machines’ contents, facilitating efficient restocking and tracking of tool usage. A remote email feature notifies us when the machines reach their minimum quantity thresholds allowing us to prevent stockouts and ensure proactive replenishment.

Key Customer Benefits

Enhanced Accessibility and Flexibility: With the vending machines strategically placed throughout the site, Safran employees have quick access to tools without the need for extensive walking or searching. This flexibility minimizes downtime and improves overall productivity.

Accurate Billing and Cost Savings: Gandtrack’s system provides accurate usage data which eliminates guesswork and improves financial transparency.

Streamlined Inventory Management: The system’s automated reporting generates a weekly report that is distributed to top-level Managers at Safran. This ensures better control over access, identifying authorised and unauthorised usage or potential discrepancies promptly.

Reduced stockouts: Safran also benefits from stock level tracking in real-time, enabling proactive management and reducing the risk of stockouts by at least 90%.
